NYC premiere of my new play Zog next month! (Nov. 2024)
My short play Zog, which examines a trio of rec league softball teammates who realize they’re spending their final moments before nuclear obliteration trapped with each other on a subway car, will be presented in December as part of Divine Riot’s A Train Antholoy at Brooklyn Art Haus. Three Scripts Advance at Austin Film Festival (Sept. 2024)
I’m honored that three scripts I wrote this year — two short films and one horror comedy pilot — have moved forward in Austin Film Festival’s screenplay competition. More soon!
BRETT WAS A F*CK to premiere at SOHO (August 2024)
Thrilled to announce that my short film BRETT WAS A F*CK, which I wrote, co-directed, and co-produced, will premiere at the SOHO International Film Festival in mid-September. Can’t wait to share some additional festival updates in the near future!
Boeing Boeing at Flat Rock Playhouse (July 2024)
What an amazing experience bringing this energetic farce to North Carolina! Come see the show Asheville Stages described as “a bold and occasionally subtle yet constant comedic rumble.” Apparently, according to Tribune Papers, “Handsome Rubin with poise and elocution is very believable as a dapper, cultured, brash ladies’ man.” Running through August 25th.

I had an amazing time shooting this period-piece adventure film on location in Maine! Can’t wait to see this one come to life.
Joining At the Wedding at Studio Theatre (March 2024)
I’m excited to return to DC and the Studio Theatre to join the company of At the Wedding, a fantastic comedy with a huge heart. Get your tickets now for the show the Washington Post is calling “switchblade-sharp” and “worth its weight in gold.”
Rave reviews for Macbeth in Stride at Philadelphia Theatre Company (November 2023)
I stepped in for opening weekend of the show’s Philadelphia run, and we received a fantastic reception from audiences and critics alike. From the Philadelphia Inquirer: “Rubin seamlessly slips between song, accordion playing, and recitation of Old English Shakespearean verse…wow! Just wow!”

Production begins on BRETT WAS A F*CK (August 2023)
I’m elated to dive into co-directing and producing this short murder mystery that I wrote — my script was a second rounder at Austin Film Festival last year, and I’m lucky to have an amazing cast and crew bringing it to life with me.

I had a wonderful time helping develop a new musical from the creators of Puffs and some wildly talented songwriters with a series of readings this spring. Looking forward to what’s next for the project!

I came onboard to helm a taut thriller by playwright Matt Minnicino, and had the opportunity to work with a fantastic cast and crew to bring it to life — now onto post!

After a record-breaking 951 performances, the New York production of Puffs has officially closed. I had such a phenomenal time playing Cedric eight times a week over the past year — thanks to all the fans who made it such a terrific experience!
